Frequently Asked Questions
Is shipping free? For orders over $100, standard economy shipping is free in the continental 48 United States (excluding Alaska and Hawaii) unless otherwise clearly stated in product information. Standard shipping charges apply outside the continental U.S. Expedited shipping even within the continental U.S. does require a shipping charge which is determined by the carrier.
What if I can't find what I'm looking for? If you are looking for a particular item that you haven't been able to find in our store, please let us know and we will try to find it for you either inside or outside of our inventory. If it's not in our store and we can't import it quickly, we will let you know what other store may have it.
What if I don't receive my package within 7-10 days after ordering? If you have a tracking number or order number, you can go to the Tracking Page and enter the information there to find out where your package is. If you don't have the information, or if that doesn't work, please send us an email or call us so that we can look into the matter right away. We are very quick to offer refunds for items that are incorrect, defective, damaged or missing.
What if I am not happy with my purchase after I receive it? You may return your item for free, for any reason, for a full refund within 30 days of purchase. Just let us know that you will be returning it, and as soon as it arrives, we will issue a refund right away. A return shipping label may be included in your package, which will make it easy for you to just tape the return label to the package and send it back. If that is not available, call or email us so we can send you a return shipping label by email free of charge.
How do I find more information on products of interest? Our webpage on Product Reviews lists multiple resources where you can learn about many of our items. You can also give us a call or send an email and we'll provide whatever information that we have or that we can find for you.
How can I find information about how to build my own model railroad? Our parent website, Building Your Model Railroad, is the most comprehensive site on the web showing exactly how to build a model railroad of any size or scale, step-by-step, from start to finish, beginner to advanced. In addition, our page on Resources and References can lead you to even more endless information about model railroading.
Do you have a retail store where I could go to shop in person? Not at this time. We are located in Virginia, but our store is online only.
How long has your business been around? We have been serving people all over the world since 2009 using our primary site at Building Your Model Railroad. This store, Hobby Central Train Station, has only been in business since January of 2020.
