The EMD E7 was a 2000 hp passenger train locomotive built by General Motors Electromotive Division of Lagrange, Illinois. The E7As were built from February 1945 to April 1949. The 2000 hp came from 2-12 cylinder model 567A engines each of which drove its own electrical generator to power the two traction motors per truck. The E7 upon its introduction became the best-selling E-unit model in EMD's library.
